What sizes of storage units do you offer?

We offer a wide range of unit sizes—from compact 5×5 spaces for a few boxes or seasonal items to large 10×30 units that can hold the contents of an entire home. If you’re unsure which size fits your needs, our staff can walk you through it in just a few minutes.

How do I figure out which size storage unit is right for me?

A simple way to estimate is to think by “room.” A 5×10 usually fits one room’s worth of belongings, while a 10×20 or 10×25 can hold several rooms or a full household. When in doubt, give us a call—our team helps customers choose the right size every day.

What items am I not allowed to store?

For safety reasons, we do not allow food, live animals, plants, flammables, propane tanks, car batteries, ammunition, drugs, explosives, or hazardous chemicals. When in doubt, ask our staff—we’re here to help you store responsibly.

Do you offer climate-controlled units?

Yes. All Look Self Storage facilities offer climate-controlled storage, which helps protect items like furniture, electronics, photos, and documents from extreme temperatures and moisture.

What’s the difference between indoor and outdoor storage?

Indoor units are located inside a climate-controlled building, ideal for sensitive items. Outdoor or “drive-up” units allow you to park right at the door for easy loading and unloading.

Can I store a vehicle, RV, or boat?

Yes. Our Lansing and South Lyon locations offer outdoor parking for vehicles, RVs, and boats. Highland location offers indoor vehicle storage inside a traditional unit.

Are leases month-to-month?

Yes, all of our rentals are month-to-month for maximum flexibility.

Can I move in the same day I rent a unit?

Absolutely. You can move in the same day whether you rent online, in person, or over the phone.

What should I bring when moving in?

Please bring a government-issued ID and your preferred payment method. We’ll handle the rest.

Do you provide carts or dollies?

Yes, all locations have heavy-duty carts available to help you move items more easily.

Rates, Billing & Payments

How much does a storage unit cost?

Rates vary based on size, type, and location. You can get an instant quote by calling us or checking availability online.

Do prices vary by facility?

Yes. Each Look Self Storage location may have slightly different pricing depending on demand and availability.

Do you offer move-in specials or discounts?

Yes. Specials vary by location, and we also offer prepaid discounts and reduced rates for Military, First Responders, and School Employees with valid ID.

Do I need to pay a deposit or administrative fee?

There is a one-time $25 administrative fee at move-in. No security deposit required.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept credit/debit cards, cash, checks, money orders, and ACH bank payments.

Can I set up autopay?

Yes—autopay is required for all tenants to help ensure on-time payments and avoid interruption.

How do I make payments online?

After your rental is completed, you can create an online account on our website to make payments, update your info, or change your card on file.

What happens if I miss a payment?

We’ll send you text and email alerts. After five days of non-payment, gate access will be temporarily restricted.

Security & Access

How secure are your facilities?

All locations feature 24/7 video surveillance, secure gated access, bright nighttime lighting, and personalized entry codes for tenants.

Do all facilities have gated access and surveillance?

Yes. Every Look Self Storage location is fully gated with monitored video systems.

Can I use my own lock?

Yes, as long as it is not a cylinder lock. We strongly recommend disc locks, which are available for purchase on-site.

Who can access my storage unit?

Only you, unless you share your access code or designate an alternate contact on your account.

What if I lose my key or forget my gate code?

If you lose your unit key, we offer lock removal during office hours. For forgotten gate codes, please visit the office with valid ID.

Are the facilities well-lit at night?

Yes, all properties are equipped with bright lighting to help you feel safe during early morning or evening visits.

Access Hours

What are your access hours?

Standard access hours are 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., 365 days a year.

What are your office hours?

Tuesday–Friday: 9:30 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
Saturday: 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Do you offer 24-hour access?

Yes. For an additional $10/month and a written request explaining the need.

What if I need help after office hours?

Call your facility. Our voicemail includes an after-hours emergency contact number.

Packing & Storage Tips

How should I pack items inside my unit?

Place heavier items and sturdy boxes on the bottom, then stack lighter items on top. Plastic totes offer better protection than cardboard boxes.

How do I protect furniture or electronics?

Climate-controlled units are best. Wrap furniture in covers and protect electronics with plastic or bubble wrap to keep out dust and moisture.

How do I avoid pests in storage?

Use sealed totes, avoid storing food, wrap mattresses and furniture, and keep items off the floor. We also maintain routine pest control for added peace of mind.

Vehicle, Boat & RV Storage

Do you offer outdoor vehicle storage?

Yes. Lansing and South Lyon offer outdoor spaces for vehicles, RVs, and boats.

Is enclosed or covered storage available?

Options vary by location. Call us and we’ll help you find the best space for your vehicle.

Moving Out & Account Changes

Can I switch units if I need more or less space?

Yes. Unit transfers are quick and simple—just contact the office.

How do I move out?

Give us a 10-day notice, empty and sweep your unit, remove your lock, and notify the office once you’re done.

Is there a minimum or maximum rental period?

All rentals are month-to-month. Move-in specials may require a 3-month minimum stay.

Do I need insurance?

Yes. Xercor insurance is required for all rentals. Homeowners and renters insurance are not accepted.

Communication & Support

Is there on-site staff?

Yes. Each facility has on-site staff during office hours.

How do I contact my local facility?

You can reach us by phone, email, text, or by visiting the office in person.
